Daryl Anthony

Assistan​t Secretary

Major Daryl Anthony was appointed Assistant Secretary for Land Resources for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources in July 2015. In this role, he is responsible for policy and management of the 500,000 public recreation and conservation land holdings of parks, forests, wildlife management areas as well as the Land Acquisition and Planning, Engineering and Construction divisions and the Maryland Environmental Trust.

Daryl joined DNR in 1983 as a contractual seasonal ranger at Patapsco State Park while earning his B.S. in Recreation and Park Management at Frostburg State. From there, he was promoted within the Park Service from sergeant and assistant park manager in 1995, to captain and southern region manager in 1999, to major and central region manager in 2006, before his most recent role as western regional manager.

In 2004, Daryl received the Superintendent’s Commendation for his work to consolidate law enforcement operations within the Maryland Natural Resources Police and the Maryland Park Service Rangers, which established an efficient, streamlined police presence on public lands and waterways of Maryland. He was also instrumental in developing the Maryland Conservation Jobs Corps in 2008, a six-week, non-residential summer program for youth primarily from metro areas, with more than 2,000 graduates to date.

Daryl, who resides in Howard County, is married with two grown children.​​​​​
