This species was first identified in 1883.
Other names Peridinium trachoideum (Stein, Lemmermann 1910), Glenodinium trochoideum (Stein 1883).
Seasonal dominance Summer.
Distribution Mesohaline.
Description 18-34 um long, 17-28 um wide.  Chloroplasts are yellow - brown in color.
