Eelgrass is the most abundant and persistent bay
grass in high-salinity areas of Chesapeake Bay and the coastal bays; population levels are
very stable. It provides a habitat for young blue crabs and sea trout.
High salinity areas of Chesapeake Bay and coastal bays,
approximately from the Choptank River south to the mouth of the Bay and throughout the
Alternately arranged ribbon-type leaves up to 1 meter long and 3-5 mm wide.
Flowers from May through June.
