One of the last remaining freshwater tidal marshes in the upper
Chesapeake Bay is found in the Otter Point Creek component, located on a
tributary of the Bush River in Harford County. Its 736 acres of open
water, tidal marshes, forested wetlands, and upland hardwood forests are
surrounded by highways, homes, and commercial development. Yet, the
woods, creeks, and marshes are filled with plants and animals.
The Anita C. Leight Estuary Center is open to the public and provides
hiking trails, hands-on interactive activities and displays as well as a
variety of programs for the community, students, and families. The
Center also supports a large volunteer corps, college interns, field
studies, and high school and citizen monitoring programs. Additionally,
there is an on-site laboratory available for use by visiting scientists.
The Center is open to the public on Thursday, Friday and Saturday
from 10:00am - 5:00pm and Sundays 12:00pm - 5:00 pm.
