River Input
Monitoring Stations The U.S. Geological Survey, in conjunction with the Department of Natural Resources, monitors water quality and flow at four River Input stations located on Marylands largest tributaries to the Bay. These monitoring locations include the Susquehanna River at Conowingo Dam, the Potomac River at Little Falls, the Patuxent River at Bowie, and the Choptank River at Greensboro. The Susquehanna River, which is the Bays largest tributary, contributes approximately 60% of the total freshwater flow to the Bay. The Potomac River, which is the second largest Bay tributary, contributes approximately 20% of the total freshwater to the Bay.
