Clean Marina certification has caught on! Boaters can now find certified Clean Marinas throughout the mid-Atlantic region and around the country.

Using the Maryland program as a model, Virginia, Delaware, the District of Columbia (along with the National Park Service), and New Jersey have developed similar Clean Marina certification programs. Certification indicates that a Clean Marina has met its regulatory requirements (which can be quite extensive) and voluntarily adopted a significant portion of recommended "best management practices" from their State's Clean Marina Guidebook.

Clean Marinas do not have to adopt 100% of the “best management practices” but rather a significant amount which may vary slightly in each state. In some cases, Clean Marina programs are organized across states or water bodies, to best serve a particular region. Boaters are encouraged to use certified Clean Marinas in their travels knowing they are clean, professional, and environmentally responsible businesses.
