NOTICE OF CHANGES TO BUOY OPERATIONS
In response to current budget limitations at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), changes have been made to the DNR buoy operations. As a statewide cost saving measure, a number of buoys, markers and signs have been redistributed and the placement of 800 buoys was eliminated.
In order to meet the buoy reduction goal, marking of private swim beaches was eliminated. To help assist with this transition DNR Hydrographic Operations has created a Swim Buoy Request program that will enable community associations to request swim buoys for beaches which were once marked by the state. These buoys can be picked up and placed by the community association.
For more information on this program, please contact Ann Williams by e-mail at amwilliams@dnr.state.md.us or call (410) 643-6521. As always, the Department will continue to mark navigational channels, speeds zones and hazards.
