CHESAPEAKE & ATLANTIC COASTAL BAYS TRUST
FUND NOW ACCEPTING PROPOSALS FOR STATE FISCAL YEAR 2012
The State of
Maryland
and its Partners are soliciting proposals from local
governments and non-governmental organizations to
implement the non-point source pollution control
projects as identified in the State's 2-Year Milestone
in priority geographic areas to improve the health of
the
Chesapeake Bay,
Atlantic
Coastal
Bays
and local water quality. The Local Implementation Grant,
part of the Chesapeake & Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust
Fund, provides funding for projects that improve water
quality by reducing nitrogen, phosphorus and/or sediment
pollution and that help to achieve the State's 2-Year
Milestone. Expected annual funding amounts range
from $1 million to $5 million annually per proposal.
Multi-year proposals up to three years are welcomed.
These grants provide an opportunity for locally driven
initiatives to improve water quality close to home and
the Bay. The deadline is
5:00 p.m.,
May 28, 2010.

release.

DON'T
FORGET: WATERSHED ASSISTANCE GRANT PROGRAM
IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS UNTIL APRIL 2!

Watershed Assistance Collaborative, and led by the
Chesapeake Bay Trust, the purpose of the WAGP is to
provide funding assistance at the earliest phases of

TRUST FUND
PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: LITTLE PATUXENT
RESTORATION PARTNERS
Selected for funding
through the 2008 Local Implementation Grant,
Howard
County
and the Columbia Association have been ramping up their
restoration efforts due in part to the
Chesapeake
and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund. With $340,000 in
SFY09,
the partners were able to begin base line monitoring and
a stream stabilization project. A significant
increase in funding for
SFY10
allowed for significantly more implementation: 18
nonpoint source pollution reduction projects will begin
in the Little Patuxent, including an outreach component
coordinated by the area's Regional Watershed Restoration
Specialist, Amanda Rockler, for a total of $1.3M. This impressive
effort is not just a result of the Trust Fund though;
both
Howard
County
and the Columbia Association have made local watershed
restoration a priority and have provided significant
match to this initiative as well as fast-tracking
project designs for implementation in the near future.
The partnerships that are working in this watershed,
including local entities, the State, and the Watershed
Assistance Collaborative, is reflective of what the
Governor had envisioned for the Trust Fund - everyone
doing their part to improve water quality in Maryland. |
2011 TRUST FUND WORK AND
EXPENDITURE PLAN NOW AVAILABLE
Interested in
learning more about the Little Patuxent and other
initiatives supported by the Trust Fund? The 2011
Trust Fund Work and Expenditure Plan is now
available.This report,
submitted annually to the State Legislature and along
with the Governor's budget reports on what happened in
2009, what is happening now and what we plan to do in
2011. The
workplan is consistent with the Governor's Fiscal Year
2011 budget and outlines how the State plans to expend
$20M next year. | |
