Stakeholder Development & Financing Strategies

Work Group Meeting

Lead by the University of Maryland’s Environmental Finance Center, the Collaborative is working with local governments and other groups to assist with project implementation, watershed plan development, stakeholder development and facilitation, and financing strategies such as stormwater utilities. The focus is protecting natural resources and watersheds by strengthening the capacity of local decision-makers to analyze environmental problems, develop innovative and effective methods of financing environmental efforts and educate communities about the role of finance and economic development in the protection of the environment.

“We could never have put together the partnership and developed an effective grant without the help of the Watershed Assistance Collaborative and the UMD Environmental Finance Centers’ participation. Joanne Throwe and her colleague Jennifer Cotting assembled the necessary partners and kept the group on track to develop a winnable proposal. In addition, Joanne continued to keep us focused on implementing the grant once it was awarded.”
