Leading CCP's efforts to provide technical assistance to local communities throughout the coastal zone to incorporate coastal hazards and sea level rise adaptation into local planning and management efforts. Recently graduated from Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment with his Masters of Environmental Management and a Certificate of Geospatial Analysis. During his time in Beaufort, NC, he completed a project determining the socio-economic and environmental impacts of sea-level rise on Bogue Banks, NC.

CHRIS CORTINA, Coastal Planning and Communications Coordinator

Administers the 306A small-scale construction and acquisition grants and the 309 coastal community planning grants for coastal cities and counties. Develops and maintains Maryland’s Coastal Atlas, an on-line data resource for coastal Maryland, and serves as liaison with national and regional technical teams developing similar web-based portals. Serves as the programs communications specialist.

Directs all programs and activities of the Chesapeake and Coastal Program. Serves as liaison between the Chesapeake and Coastal Program, other state and federal agencies or programs, the regional Chesapeake Bay Program, non-governmental organizations and associations.

SARAH LANE, Implementation Program Analyst

Principal technical and program specialist for watershed restoration programs. Evaluates policy, legislation and program effectiveness, coordinates research and reporting of data related to the State’s Chesapeake Bay restoration efforts. Plans, researches and directs the development of water quality restoration measures and serves as liaison with regional technical teams. Administers Innovative Technology Grants, designed to promote investments in technologies that could accelerate Bay restoration efforts.

CATHERINE MCCALL, Planning and Technical Services Section Chief

Serves as program lead for planning and technical services. Coordinates coastal conservation projects and serves as the Coastal and Estuarine Land Conservation Program (CELCP) contact. Oversees marine spatial planning activities, including; ocean planning, marine protected areas, blue infrastructure and sea level rise adaptation planning. Leads program assessment for 309 Program Enhancements.

Serves as program lead for policy and program development. Assists the Department and Coastal Program Director in analyzing legislation, rules, and policy related to Chesapeake Bay and coastal issues. Responsible for developing and coordinating State and interstate policy through the Governor's Bay Cabinet and Governor's Bay Workgroup.

CHELSIE PAPIEZ, Coastal Resources Planner

Assisting the State to better understand how and where sea level rise inundation will affect coastal areas. Identifying coastal land characteristics for conservation in response to sea-level rise and potential co-benefits for carbon sequestration in the Chesapeake Bay region. This will enhance Maryland’s ability to prioritize and target protection and restoration activities.

Administers grants to coastal cities and counties for the implementation of nonpoint source pollution control projects. Manages the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Coastal Bays 2010 Trust Fund, Chesapeake Bay Implementation and coastal non point source grants. Works with local governments in identifying and developing projects and proposals and oversees project management.

Administers CCP grant funds received from the federal government (NOAA Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management and others) and grants or contracts awarded to local coastal jurisdictions or private entities. Prepares and submits grant applications and reports. Assists Program Director and staff in tracking projects and grants, developing budgets, monitoring expenditures, and streamlining grants management.
