ANNAPOLIS, MD — Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Secretary C. Ronald Franks and his staff will participate in the National Job Shadow Day Initiative that kicks off on this Groundhog Day, Monday, Feb. 2.

DNR representatives from the Natural Resources Police, State Forest and Park Service and Wildlife and Heritage Service will join Secretary Franks in hosting high school students both in the office and out in the field in an effort to enlighten them to the breadth of career opportunities available with the agency.

“In our continuing effort to attract the best and brightest to DNR, Job Shadow Day affords a unique opportunity to grab the interest of Maryland’s young people when they are still in school and forming decisions about their future, “ Secretary Franks said. “DNR has a diverse range of career fields: I am positive these students will be inspired by the jobs they shadow.”

More than one million young people nationwide are expected to participate in the seventh annual Job Shadow Day initiative.

National job shadowing is a coordinated effort of Junior Achievement, America's Promise - The Alliance for Youth, and the U.S. Department of Labor. Monster, News Corporation, and the American Hotel and Lodging Association are the major co-sponsors. For more information, go to www.jobshadow.org.
