Forest Service Announces
2004 Forestry And Natural Resources Careers Week

Applications being accepted until April 15
ANNAPOLIS, MD — The Maryland Association of Forest Conservancy District Boards in cooperation with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Forest Service is now accepting applications from high school students for 2004 Maryland Forestry and Natural Resources Careers Week, an event to be held August 26-30 at the Hickory Environmental Education Center in Garrett County.

This weeklong residential camp acquaints high school students with careers in forestry and other natural-resource fields, including wildlife management, fisheries biology, park management, and land use. Camp staff includes DNR Forest Service personnel and other resource-management professionals. The curriculum features hands-on activities, lectures, problem-solving exercises, and field trips, all designed to enlighten students about natural-resource careers. College Night and Career Night are also parts of the program.

The Maryland Association of Forest Conservancy District Boards sponsors the program, and county forestry boards manage student selection, fees, and transportation. In most cases, student scholarships are available.

Applications can be obtained from DNR Forest Service offices, by calling Pam Kelly at 410-260-8589, or by e-mailing her at pkelly@dnr.state.md.us. The deadline for submitting applications is April 15.
