DNR’s Natural Resource Magazine Launches First Photo Contest
Deadline for Submitting Entries Is August 15
ANNAPOLIS, MD — The newly redesigned Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) magazine, invites Maryland residents to take part in its first Natural Resources Photo Contest, and it’s about time.
First, Maryland is full of photogenic plants and wildlife, scenery that could keep Paul Cezanne busy for a lifetime, and people enjoying the pleasures of the great outdoors. Second, because DNR’s magazine graduated from two colors to full color with the publication of its spring 2004 issue, the magazine is now able to present the colorful handiwork of Maryland’s many photographers who find nature to be a natural resource of subject matter.
Photographs must be taken in Maryland. Subject matter may include greenways, parks, trails or natural areas, wildlife, people engaged in outdoor recreation, the Chesapeake Bay, tributaries or wetlands, seasonal landscapes and settings, and aerial views.
Prints must be 5 by 7 inches or larger and unmounted, and they should contain no information on the front. The contest requires a $10 entry fee, which allows a maximum of three entries per person. Make checks payable to DNR; please do not send cash. Judges will include a professional photographer and DNR staff.
The deadline for submission is August 15. DNR employees and their family members are ineligible for entry. The prizes to be awarded are $500 for first place, $200 for second place, and a one-year pass to Maryland state parks for third place. Winners will be notified by mail, and an official announcement will be made by October 1.
Mail entries to John Cornell, The Maryland Natural Resource Magazine, 580 Taylor Avenue, D-4, Annapolis, MD 21401. To learn more about the magazine and view contest information, visit www.dnr.state.md.us/naturalresource/index.html
