Elk Neck State Park And Forest Damaged During Severe Storm
NORTH EAST– Elk Neck State Park and Elk Neck State Forest were among many areas that sustained damage from last night’s thunderstorms.
The day use area located in North East side of the park remains closed today with at least 100 fallen trees as a result of the storm. It is unknown at this time when it will reopen. Power lines are also down and power remains out in the North East side of the park, leaving water and sewer services unavailable.
A substantial number of trees also remain down across the entrance road to the 2,188-acre park. There was no damage to any facilities or to the campground that is on the Elk River side of the park.
Elk Neck State Forest, which houses a shooting range, remains closed as the entrance road is washed out with ditches of water measuring approximately 4 foot deep and wide. The Forest, which is not located in the park but near the town of North East, could be open as early as this weekend.
