Chesapeake Forest Lands Hunting Tracts Identified
Lottery for leasing opportunities to be held Sept. 10
ANNAPOLIS — The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has completed its comprehensive planning process for managing hunting opportunities on Chesapeake Forest Lands located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The plan incorporates both Public Hunting and Leased Hunting.

More than 14,000 acres of Chesapeake Forest Lands will open for public hunting for the 2004-2005 hunting season including some waterfowl sites. Tract information, maps and driving directions are now available on the DNR website (www.dnr.maryland.gov)

In addition, twelve tracts have been identified for leasing to Hunt Clubs. Hunt Clubs that are interested in obtaining a hunting lease agreement on Chesapeake Forest Lands can enter a lottery for the 12 non-leased tracts that are currently available for Hunt Club leasing. The Department will be conducting a public lottery on Sept. 10 to allocate these tracts.

Information regarding the Lottery guidelines, tracts, lease rates, maps and directions are available. The deadline for submitting lottery applications is Friday, Sept. 10 at noon.

Information regarding public hunting opportunities and the Hunt Club lease lottery can be obtained on the DNR website at: http://www.dnr.state.md.us/forests/chesapeakeforests/ or by calling the Chesapeake Forest Lands Office at 410-543-9869.
