Public Comment Sought On Assateague State Park Land Unit Plan
Public meeting to be held to solicit input

BERLIN, MD -- The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will hold a public meeting to solicit input on a proposed plan for Assateague State Park. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Auditorium at Stephan Decatur High School located at 9913 Seahawk Road in Berlin.

The proposed Plan includes recommendations for a hiking/biking trail from the State offices on the mainland side of Rt. 611 to the island side of the Park, relocation of the current Nature Center building from the camp loops to an area more accessible to the general public, a bird observation tower, a pavilion, etc. Other recommendations are related to developing a horse management plan, enhancing current resource-based recreational opportunities, to continue to stabilize and replenish dunes, visitor education related to various species on the island, and environmentally sensitive design to name a few.

The draft plan, associated maps and other material will be available starting at 6:30 p.m. for public review at the meeting site. The presentation portion of the meeting will begin at 7 p.m. followed by a question and answer session. A public comment period will follow these presentations. Written comments will also be accepted for the public record during the meeting.
