70 Atlantic Sturgeon to Get New Homes for the Winter
On Tuesday, Nov. 8 from 8 to 11 a.m., Mirant environmental scientists and DNR Fisheries Service biologists will transfer approximately 70 Atlantic sturgeon from indoor tanks into ponds for winter. The fish are up to four feet long and nearly 50 pounds in weight. These immature fish are being raised as part of Maryland’s efforts to restore the Atlantic sturgeon to the Chesapeake Bay. The event will take place at Mirant’s Aquaculture Center, at Mirant’s Chalk Point Power Plant in Southeastern Prince George’s County.
