NRP Charge 17-Year-Old Sharpsburg Youth With Hunting Bear Out of Season
NRP closed the case on the 17-year-old Sharpsburg youth charged with hunting black bear during closed season yesterday, Nov. 14. The investigation started on Oct. 17 with a bear carcass located in St. James Run, a tributary of the Potomac River near Sharpsburg. NRP’s investigation determined that the youth was bow hunting on the morning of Oct. 15 on private property when he shot the bear. Due to the youths age the case was referred to the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services. The case was adjudicated in a hearing yesterday with the youth being fined $500 and his bow was forfeited to the state.
