Garrett County – On Friday, January 5, at 9 p.m., Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) charged Jerry Lee Michaels, 35, of Kitzmiller with exceeding daily bag limit of antlered deer and two counts of failure to report deer kill. The Garrett County Narcotics Task Force called NRP for assistance after locating deer parts while executing a search and seizure warrant at the Main Street residence.

The head and hide of a 10-point buck was located in a freezer along with a large quantity of deer antlers. Michaels allegedly killed the 10-point buck and a doe and checked the deer in on a female friend’s hunting license. NRP seized as evidence, the 10-point buck and a 4-point buck. Michaels has a March 29 trail date scheduled in Garrett County District Court.

Kent County – On Tuesday, January 9, at 9:30 a.m., Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) charged Charles C. Hitchens Sr., 64, of Stevensville and Charles C. Hitchens Jr., 36, of New Castle, Del. with exceeding daily bag limit of migratory waterfowl. The two were hunting Canada geese on private property off of Perkins Hill Road, near Chestertown. Hitchens Sr. was charged with two geese over the limit and his son was charged with one goose over the limit.

NRP reminds hunters that the late Atlantic population Canada goose season daily bag limit is two geese per hunter, per day. The season closes January 27th.

Washington County – On Friday, January 5, at 4 p.m., Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) charged Donald Eugene Zeigler, 44, of Hagerstown with hunting on private property without written permission in the 700 Block of Antietam Drive near Hagerstown. NRP responded to the area after receiving a report of four individuals with several dead deer illegally hunting on private property.

Officers arrived at the scene and located Zeigler and three other individuals but no deer. NRP K-9 unit “Blu” and his handler were utilized and located 3 field dressed deer, a tree stand and an empty ammunition casing approximately 400 yards in the woods. NRP issued Zeigler a citation and seized his rifle as evidence.

Washington County - On Saturday, January 6, at 10 a.m., Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) charged Durrell Carl Landis, 29, Dana Lynn Landis, 24, both of Chambersburg, Pa. and David Andrew Landis, 25, of Greencastle Pa. with hunting on private property without written permission in the area of Leitersburg Pike north of Hagerstown. NRP responded to the area after receiving a report of three individuals illegally hunting on private property.

Officers arrived at the scene and located Durrell Landis walking to his vehicle. NRP K-9 unit “Blu” and his handler were utilized and located Dana and David Landis approximately 500 yards in the woods. NRP reminds hunters and landowners that it is unlawful to hunt on private lands in all counties without written permission of the landowner or the landowner’s lessee.
