Maryland Natural Resources Police Blotter

Dorchester County – The Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) continue their investigation into an incident that started as a report of a Vienna man missing in the Choptank River and being located hours later in Trappe.

On Sunday afternoon, January 21, it was reported to police that Antonio Jermaine McCoy Sr., 33, and another male individual were operating a 20-foot vessel in the area of the Hambrooks Light near Cambridge. The vessel ran aground and McCoy entered the water to push the vessel free. As the vessel started to move, McCoy disappeared into the water. Authorities were called to the scene and searched the area until dark with negative results. Plans were to resume the search efforts this morning.

At 11:42 p.m. Sunday night, Talbot County Emergency Management Agency received a call for a disoriented man matching McCoy’s description, at a convenience store in Trappe. Talbot County EMS transported the individual to Easton Memorial Hospital where he was treated and admitted with non-life threatening injuries. NRP responded to the hospital and confirmed the man was McCoy.

Cambridge, Vienna, Church Creek, Madison, Taylors Island, Hoopers Island, Eldorado, Lakes Straits, Tilghman, Easton and Trappe fire companies, along with Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, Talbot County Sheriff’s Office, Cambridge Police Department, Maryland State Police and the United States Coast Guard assisted NRP with the incident.

Cecil County – On Saturday, January 20, at 6:52 a.m. NRP charged Daniel Peter Callahan, 26, of Perryville and Stephen Thomas Callahan, 25, of Joppa with hunting waterfowl with the aid of bait and hunting private land without written permission. The two men were allegedly hunting on private property off of Bohemia Church Road, near Cecilton. Both men received two citations each with a March 23 trial date scheduled in Cecil County District Court.

A person may not hunt or attempt to hunt wetland game birds by the aid of baiting, or on or over any baited area. Baiting means the placing, exposing, depositing, distributing or scattering of shelled, shucked or unshucked corn, wheat or other grain, salt or other feed that would lure, attract or entice wetland game birds to, on or over any areas where hunters are attempting to hunt them.
