DNR Announces PLANT Award Recipients for 2006
ANNAPOLIS— The Maryland Urban and Community Forest Committee (MUCFC) and the Department of Natural Resources have announced the statewide Maryland Community PLANT (People Loving And Nurturing Trees) Award recipients for 2006.

The PLANT award is given to communities for their commitment to planting and caring for trees, and increasing the public's understanding and appreciation of the role of trees in helping create healthy, sustainable communities and a cleaner Chesapeake Bay.

Schools, homeowner's associations, parks, cities, towns and other entities throughout Maryland will be presented their Awards next month at official Arbor Day and Earth Day ceremonies. Of the 127 PLANT Award winners this year, 47 Awardees have reached the top GREEN Level.

"We encourage each community to increase their efforts each year and grow to the next award level if possible. We're thrilled that so many PLANT Award communities are committed to sustaining their efforts year after year at the level where they're most capable," said Steve Parker, Chairman of the Urban Committee.

The 2006 Awardees are:
