Make Your Child’s 2007 Summer A Memorable One Through DNR’s Popular Outdoor Discovery Camp
“Where Outdoor Learning Is Naturally Fun”
ANNAPOLIS - The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites parents looking for something fun for children to do during the summer months to explore the opportunities offered by the Maryland Park Service’s Outdoor Discovery Program. Outdoor Discovery is a week-long residential overnight camp that provides youth with a total outdoor living experience, acquainting them with Maryland’s state parks while fostering a feeling of responsibility.

The program has specially designed four different camps for boys and girls, ages 8-16. Campers will have the opportunity to participate in hiking, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, caving, mountain biking, white water rafting, rock climbing, horseback riding, surfing, sailing, environmental education, teambuilding, games/initiatives, fishing, arts & crafts, campfire programs, and DNR programs such as Meet the Ranger, Junior Ranger, and Scales & Tales. Enrollment is limited to 15 participants per camp. Outdoor Discovery maintains a 5 to 1 camper to counselor ratio to ensure each child is safe and receives adequate attention to enjoy the full camping experience. The four different Outdoor Discovery camps are:

  • Multi-Adventure I Ages: 8 - 10 Cost: $375/week Tuckahoe State Park, Pocomoke State Park and Rocky Gap State Park
  • Multi-Adventure II Ages: 10 – 12 Cost: $450/week Eastern Shore Adventure @ Tuckahoe State Park, Northern Maryland Adventure @ Susquehanna State Park, and Western Maryland Adventure @ Rocky Gap State Park
  • Multi-Adventure III Ages: 11 – 13 Cost: $475/week Fishing @ Tuckahoe State Park, Western Maryland Specialty @ Big Run State Park, Northern Maryland Specialty @ Susquehanna State Park, Lower Shore Specialty @ Pocomoke State Park, Fishing @ Cedarville State Forest, Rocky Gap Fusion and Water Sports @ Assateague State Park
  • Multi-Adventure IV Ages: 14 – 16 Cost: $525/week Island Sports @ Janes Island State Park, Water Sports @ Assateague State Park, Extreme @ Swallow Falls State Park, Western Maryland Exploration, Extreme @ New Germany State Park and Western Maryland Primitive @ Big Run State Park
