Maryland Natural Resources Police Blotter
Anne Arundel County On Sunday, May 28, the Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) charged Ronald Glenn Calder Jr., 46, of Edgewater with operating a vessel under the influence of alcohol after finding his vessel overturned in the middle of a pound net on the West River.
NRP located the unoccupied vessel at 1:50 a.m. while on patrol in the river and began a surface search to locate the operator. Approximately an hour and a half into the search, a woman identifying herself as Calders wife contacted NRP and reported him overdue from a boat trip. A short time later she contacted NRP again and stated that Calder had called her from a convenience store requesting that she pick him up.
Officers met Calder at his residence in Edgewater and after their investigation, arrested and transported him to the Anne Arundel County Southern District Police Station for processing. He was charged with operating a motor vessel while under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vessel while impaired, negligent operation, failure to keep proper lookout to avoid a collision, and failure to obtain owners certificate of title. A court date of August 27 has been scheduled for Calder in Anne Arundel County District Court.
Anne Arundel County On Sunday, June 3, at 12:45 a.m., the Maryland Natural Resources Police charged Robert Alvin McCurdy, 55, of Brooklyn with operating a motor vessel while under the influence of alcohol on the main stem of the West River.
NRP stopped McCurdy for allegedly operating his cuddy cabin-type vessel greater than the posted six knots. McCurdy was arrested and transported to the Anne Arundel County Southern District Police Station for processing. He was charged with operating a motor vessel while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, operating a motor vessel while impaired by alcohol and/or drugs, and exceeding the West River 6-knot speed zone speed limit.
Carroll County On Wednesday, June 30, the Maryland Natural Resources Police charged Kenneth Michael Welsh, 21, of Sykesville with operating a motor vessel while under the influence of alcohol. The incident started when the Maryland State Police requested assistance with an intoxicated boater at the Liberty Reservoir boat ramp. Troopers observed Welsh and his cousin operating a boat on the Liberty watershed at 9:30 p.m., a violation of Baltimore City ordinance for use of the watershed property.
Troopers transported Welsh to the Westminister Barrack where NRP issued citations for operating a motor vessel while under the influence of alcohol, operating a vessel without proper navigational lights, and operating a vessel without a certificate of boater safety. He was also issued a notice to appear before a Carroll County District Court Commissioner within three days for an initial hearing.
Frederick County On Sunday, June 3, at 1 p.m., the Maryland Natural Resources Police charged four adults and seven juveniles with person under age 21 in possession of alcohol in the Manor area campground of Cunningham Falls State Park. NRP responded to the area after receiving complaints of loud noise coming from the campsite.
NRP issued citations to the following 18 year-old individuals: Emily Marie Eckert of Crownsville, Kevin Wayne Ochell of Annapolis, and Randall Patrick Allen and Luke Randolph Gruber, both of Arnold. Seven juveniles, all 17 years of age, were issued juvenile citations and referred to Juvenile Services.
Garrett County On Saturday, June 2, at 1 a.m. the Maryland Natural Resources Police charged seven adults and six juveniles, all of Oakland, with alcohol and camping violations off of Snaggy Mountain Road in Garrett State Forest. The group was gathered around a bonfire that contained a picnic table from the campsite as officers approached. NRP observed individuals ranging in age from 14 to 20 allegedly consuming alcohol.
The following were charged with person under age 21 in possession of alcohol and disorderly conduct: Joshua Lear, 20, David Ratliff, 20, Andrew Vanbogelen, 19, Gage Welch, 19, Michael Edwards, 19, Jeremy Glotfelty, 18. Troy Towsend, 20, was charged with camping without a permit and in a state forest after posted hours. Six juveniles were referred to Juvenile Services.
Worcester County On Friday, June 1, at 8:20 p.m., the Maryland Natural Resources Police charged Stanford Troy Mawyer, 39, of Baltimore with operating a motor vessel while under the influence of alcohol in the Isle of Wight Bay, near 49th Street in Ocean City.
NRP stopped Mawyer for allegedly operating his pontoon vessel after sunset without proper navigation lights. Mawyer was issued citations for operating a motor vessel while under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vessel while impaired, and operating a motor vessel while impaired by alcohol and/or drugs. A court date of July 20 has been scheduled for Mawyer in Worcester County District Court.
Worcester County On Friday, June 1, at 11:45 p.m., the Maryland Natural Resources Police charged seven adults and five juveniles with person under age 21 in possession of alcohol in the Shad Landing area campground of Pocomoke River State Park. NRP entered the site to enforce the 11 p.m. quiet hour policy.
NRP issued citations to the following 18 year-old individuals: Olivia R. Cooper, John R. Psota, Ross F. Wittman, Myles R. Pennington and Grant N. Lischick, all of Salisbury; Aaron M. Chamberlain of Hebron, and Michael T. Prestileo of Allen. Five juveniles, all 17 years of age, were referred to Juvenile Services.
