Civilian Conservation Corps 4th Annual Reunion September 23rd

FREDERICK, MD - The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) will hold its fourth annual reunion in Gambrill State Park on Sunday, September 23rd from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Tearoom in the High Knob Area at 8602 Gambrill Park Road in Frederick, MD. All former CCC enrollees and staff members are invited, as well as their immediate family members.

The CCC was critical to greatest national public forest and park development effort in American history. Established in March of 1933 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the CCC performed emergency conservation work and helped preserve our nation's heritage. In Maryland, a “tree army” of 35,800 men in over 60 camps built and improved State Forests and State Parks under Maryland State Forester Fred Besley’s direction. The Corps reforested thousands of acres of land, built park roads, erected dams and bridges, restored historic sites, and fought forest fires nationwide. Anyone with an interest in the Civilian Conservation Corps era (1933-1942) is also welcome to attend.

Pictures and various memorabilia will be displayed in the building and anyone with additional pictures or memorabilia is encouraged to bring them. A talk will be given on the local history related to the corps and former Enrollees will share their memories. Catered food will be available for surviving corps members and family.
