Nearly 50 Acres Of Land Conserved
QUEEN ANNE’S COUNTY —The Maryland Environmental Trust (MET) secured a valuable conservation easement of nearly 50 acres of agricultural land in Queen Anne’s County, east of Sudlersville.
“It’s important to preserve the land for the farmers of the future.” said owner William Darling Sr., whose son is also a farmer. “The incentives associated with land easements are also encouraging,” he added.
Trinity Farm consists of both pasture and woodlands and is located within the Unicorn Branch watershed, a tributary of the Chester River. Land conservation for agricultural usage is a major objective of the easement. The Farm also contains valuable Forest Interior Dwelling Bird habitat, a habitat declining in Maryland and throughout much of the eastern United States. A Forest Stewardship Plan will ensure that these precious spaces of domicile will be protected for wildlife.“We were able to flexibly tailor the easement agreement to the Darling’s agricultural operation,” said MET Easement Program Manager John Hutson.
MET’s local land trust partner, the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy, will co-holder of the conservation easement.
