Winchester Homes Donates $7,000 To Tree-Mendous Maryland
ANNAPOLIS, MD — Winchester Homes of Bethesda recently donated $7,000 towards the support of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) TREE-MENDOUS Maryland, an initiative to plant trees for healthier communities and a cleaner Chesapeake Bay.
“We are grateful for the company’s long-standing support of TREE-MENDOUS Maryland,” said DNR Assistant Secretary for Land Resources, Kristin Saunders-Evans. “Their efforts are commendable.”
The partnership between Winchester Homes and DNR began 15 years ago, when the company provided state foresters with loblolly pine seedlings, along with $2,000 to cover printing costs associated with “How to Plant” directions, materials to individually wrap seedlings and other supplies needed to promote the benefits of trees.
In 2000, financial donations increased to $6,000 and Winchester Homes has continued to steadily support the program every year thereafter. In addition to funding, the company also sponsors an annual employee volunteer tree planting project each fall in the Baltimore - Washington area. Thousands of trees and shrubs have been planted by Winchester Homes employees in parks, parking lots, schoolyards and along roadsides in Montgomery, Howard County, Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Prince George’s counties as a result of this effort.
“Environmental stewardship is a core value of our parent company, which made a partnership with this program a natural fit,” said Michael Lemon, Development Manager for Winchester Homes.
TREE-MENDOUS Maryland is a program that actively plants trees on public lands in Maryland. Since 1989, millions of trees and shrubs have been planted across the state as a result of this program. Additionally, the program offers the Gift of Trees, in which trees can be planted in honor or memory of friends and family.
