Marian Honeczy Promoted to Urban and Community Forestry Program Manager

Annapolis, Md. (February 17, 2009) - Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forest Service Director Steven W. Koehn today announced the promotion of Marian Honeczy to the position of Urban and Community Forestry Program Manager. This program is responsible for the management and protection of the State’s urban forestry resources.

“Marian brings a wealth of experience and new perspectives to this very challenging position,” said Koehn. “Urban and community forestry will play a major role in Maryland's efforts to improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay and achieve a no net loss of forests.”

Honeczy begin her tenure in 1992 as the Southern Region Forest Conservation Program Coordinator with the Maryland Forest Service, assisting local governments with their forest conservation ordinance implementation and state agencies with compliance with the MD Forest Conservation Act. She has also served as State Forest Conservation Coordinator and overseen the implementation and enforcement of the Forest Conservation Act statewide. She has been the Acting Program Manager of Urban & Community Forestry since May 2008.

Honeczy has also been lead reviewer for several large projects including the Dominion Gas Cove Point pipeline project and the Unistar Nuclear Power Plant expansion project. She also developed the Urban & Community Forestry grant program and the Maryland Forest Service Junior Forest Ranger patch program. She is an ISA Certified Arborist and AICP Certified Planner.

Marian holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University in Landscape Architecture.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forest Service has been serving the public and managing the natural resources of Maryland since 1906. The Service was formed after a plot of land known as Garrett State Forest in Garrett County was given to the State by John and Robert Garrett.
