
DNR Announces Canada Goose Hunting Dates At Sassafras Natural Resource Management Area
Annapolis, Md. (September 20, 2010) — The Maryland Department of
Natural Resources (DNR) Maryland Park Service today announced the dates for
migratory Canada geese waterfowl hunting at Sassafras Natural Resources
Management Area (NRMA). As in the past, hunting will be by permit only.
This year’s dates for migratory Canada goose hunts are Tuesdays, Thursdays and
Saturdays from November 20-26, 2010 and December 16, 2010 through January 29,
2011 (excluding December 25). All goose hunting permits will be issued through a
lottery drawing. Goose hunting applications must be received at the Tuckahoe
State Park office by the close of business (4:30 p.m.) on October 22, 2010.
Permits will be selected by random drawing on October 26 at 1 p.m.
To receive an application, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Tuckahoe
State Park, 13070 Crouse Mill Road, Queen Anne, MD 21657. Applications can also
be downloaded from DNR’s website at

Only one application per hunter is permitted.
Completed applications should be mailed along with a self-addressed, stamped
envelope to Sassafras NRMA Goose Hunt c/o Tuckahoe State Park, 13070 Crouse Mill
Road, Queen Anne, MD 21657. Permit recipients will be notified of their hunting
date and blind location by mail; results of the drawing will not be given out
over the telephone.
Hunters must hunt from their assigned blind only. Hunting hours are from a half
hour before sunrise to 12 p.m. and hunters will be required to leave the area by
1 p.m. Canada geese, snow geese and other waterfowl harvested at Sassafras NRMA
will be considered part of the daily and season bag limit. Consult the Maryland
Guide to Hunting and Trapping 2010-2011 for details. Hunting parties are limited
to four (4) hunters maximum. All members of the hunting party must possess a
valid hunting license as well as a Managed Hunt Permit.
Driving and parking is permitted in designated areas only, which will be posted.
Hunting permits must be displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle. Hunters must
keep vehicles on designated roadways. Handcarts and sleds are permissible to
haul gear to blinds.
