Susquehanna State Park To Host Rock Run Historic Area Open House
Havre de Grace, Md. (May 4, 2011) — Susquehanna State Park in Harford
County will host Rediscover Rock Run, the Rock Run Historic Area open house,
from 1 to 4 p.m. on May 7, to highlight recent renovations. The public will be
able to preview historic points of interest including the Rock Run Mansion, the
Rock Run Grist Mill and the Jersey Toll House.
“Park staff and volunteers will be available to provide tours of the Rock Run
Mansion and Grist Mill demonstrations. For children we offer nature programs, a
Kids Fish for Fun activity, the Children of Yesteryear relay, and live animals,”
said Nicole Merrick, park manager of Rocks, Susquehanna and Palmer State Parks.
“Historic craft making opportunities will also be available.”
In the 1800’s the river town of Rock Run flourished with local industries
centered on mills, iron forges, fish smokehouses and ice harvesting. Over time,
the once essential industries of the past were replaced with modern technology
and a constantly evolving culture. What remains of the almost forgotten town is
preserved within Susquehanna State Park for the enjoyment of visitors.
This event serves as an opportunity for visitors to get an early preview and
participate in some additional activities until the Park’s official opening of
Rock Run Historic Area buildings for the season on Memorial Day weekend. For a
complete schedule of events visit,

Accommodations for persons with disabilities may be available upon request with
a seven day prior notice. Pets are not allowed in historic area buildings, but
may be kept supervised outside on a leash. A service charge of $2 per vehicle
applies (out-of-state registered vehicles add $1). Some special crafts may have
an additional charge. This will be a shine only event, to be held weather
permitting. There will not be a rain date for this event.
