Tuckahoe State Park Adventure Day Camps Accepting Participants

Queen Anne, Md. (June 18, 2012) - It would not be summer vacation
without the age-old question parents know so well ─ What do we do now? The
Maryland Park Service is helping kids get outside and beat boredom with exciting
Adventure Day Camps at Tuckahoe State Park.
Located along beautiful Tuckahoe Creek, straddling both Queen Anne’s and
Caroline counties, Tuckahoe State Park offers parents and children an array of
year-round recreational opportunities. However, the warm weather and sunny skies
of summer serve as the perfect setting to a variety of activities offered
through the park’s Adventure Day Camps program.
High Ropes Camps: Ages 8 to 14
This fast-paced adventure camp teaches participants the basics of belaying, knot
tying and rock climbing on the course’s climbing wall. Campers will also have
the opportunity to try the zip line, giant swing and pamper pole. The High Ropes
camp usually fills to capacity so interested participants should register now.
There are two sessions to choose from: June 28 and 29 from 9 to 11:30 a.m.;
August 2 and 3 from 12:30 to 3 p.m.
Fishing Camp: Ages 7 to 14
Young anglers will learn about their surrounding waterways and the creatures
that call the area home along with all of the fishing basics ─ from gear to
casting ─ to begin a life-long hobby. All equipment including bait and poles
will be provided; however, campers are welcome to bring their own. There are two
sessions to choose from, located at Tuckahoe Lake: June 25 and 26 from 12:30 to
3 p.m.; August 2 and 3 from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Canoeing Camp: Ages 7 to 14
New this year, a day camp dedicated to one of Tuckahoe's most popular activities
─ canoeing! Participants will learn everything they need to know to paddle
safely while enjoying the scenery on Tuckahoe Lake and Tuckahoe Creek: July 5
and 6 from 12:30 to 3 p.m.
Archery Camp: Ages 8 to 14
Participants will be introduced to the sport of archery, learning safe bow and
arrow handling techniques from certified safety instructors and taking part in
target practice at the park’s archery range: July 5 and 6 from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Each two-day Adventure Day Camp costs $30, with a $5 discount for each
additional camp. Between Camp Care, from 11:30 to 12:30, is available for those
attending two camps in one day. The service is $5 per day and campers should
bring a bag lunch.
Tuckahoe State Park also offers two sessions of 4-day Adventure Day Camps. These
camps include activities from all of the day camps plus much more. In addition
to canoeing, fishing, high ropes and archery, campers will enjoy mountain
biking, crafts and a behind-the-scenes look at the Scales & Tales aviary, where
the park’s owls, hawks and reptiles are housed. The 4-day camps are $120 per
person. Sessions will run Monday through Thursday: July 9 to 12 from 9 a.m. to 3
p.m. (8 to 11 years); July 16 to 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (11 to 14 years).
