MPS Hosts Western Maryland Rail Trail Guided Bike Ride September 15

Pool, Md. (September 7, 2012) ─ The Maryland Park Service (MPS)
is hosting a leisurely, guided bike ride along the historic Western Maryland
Rail Trail starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 15. Bikers will follow a
naturalist to discover and learn about the area’s historic and natural wonders.
“There is no better way to relax, meet new friends, and experience Maryland’s
natural beauty than a ride on the Rail Trail,” said Charles Sullivan, park
seasonal ranger and naturalist. “Participants may even want to bring a camera to
capture all of the beauty that the trail has to offer.”
Participants should meet at the C&O bike shop in Hancock. The pace will be a
leisurely one with plenty of breaks to observe the area’s surroundings. The
guided tour will last about three hours, covering nearly 20 miles round-trip.
Bikers may choose to turn around at any time during the trip.
The ride is on a mostly paved, flat surface, suitable for people of most ages
and fitness levels. Accommodations for individuals with disabilities will be
provided upon request with seven days advance notice. Participants should dress
for the weather and carry plenty of water.
Bike rentals and snacks are available at C&O Bicycle Shop, located at 9 South
Pennsylvania Avenue, Hancock 21750.
