Environmental Design Initiative

In partnership with the Environmental Design Program and Maryland’s Coastal Program, the Initiative provided more than $700,000 to State and local governments to demonstrate how streams and watersheds impacted by development can be protected and restored through the use of innovative site design techniques.

Teacher's Guide for Assessing Resources in Maryland Classrooms

Check Up is a teacher’s guide provided by the Environmental Design Program of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. This teacher’s guide is designed for grades 6-12 and provides teachers with the information they need to identify and implement actions that are good for the environment and make economic sense.

2002 Green Building Conference:
Achieving Better Buildings for the Mid-Atlantic

On September 17th and 18th, more than 400 attendees, speakers and exhibitors came together to learn and discuss how to build, market and finance green building projects in the Mid-Atlantic region. Nationally recognized experts used case studies to highlight the techniques used and incentives available for both the development communities. The Conference’s "how-to" information was specific to the market, climate and customs of the Mid-Atlantic and exhibits featured products, services and the latest design and construction techniques.

Green Building Template:
A Guide to Sustainable Design Renovating for Baltimore Rowhouses

A major tenet of DNR's Environmental Design Program is to promote better building techniques for all of Maryland's residents, especially for those in our urban areas. By designing and constructing more environmentally sensitive, resource efficient homes, rowhome owners will save much-needed income from lower utility bills and enjoy healthier indoor air quality.
