Trout Stocking in Maryland

General Stocking InformationSport Fish Restoration

For reference, the full 2018 spring stocking schedule is available online. In addition to this page, the Department of Natural Resources Fishing & Boating Services posts stocking updates on Facebook and Twitter and through its email news service. Lastly, anglers may also call 800-688-3467 and press option #1 to get a recorded weekly update when stocking is in process (usually updated on Fridays).

Put-and-take areas have a five-trout limit and specific spring closures depending on location. Consult the Maryland Fishing Guide for closure dates and special management area restrictions.

The daily limit in areas (that are not put-and-take or special management areas) is two trout with no minimum size and no closed season, except in special trout management and put-and-take areas.

Some Trout fishing areas are subject to the 2018 Closure Schedule. Closure 0 means no restrictions and trout fishing is allowed. All fishing is prohibited in Closure Period 1 areas from 10:00 p.m. March 11 - 5:30 a.m. March 31, 2018 and Closure Period 2 areas from 10:00 p.m. March 25 - 5:30 a.m.March, 31, 2018. All areas are open to fishing at 5:30 a.m. on March 31, 2018. Please visit the 2018 Maryland Guide to Hunting and Fishing for specific rules and regulations.

Locations listed in table below were open to fishing on the date stocked. Locations subject to a closure period (at time of stocking) are not listed.

Update - Due to low water at Schoolhouse Pond, the pond only received half of its allocation (approximately 370 fish) on April 4, 2018. The rest of the ponds allocation was distributed evenly between Melwood and Allens Pond in southern Maryland.
