Waterman - Sign Up for Department Updates Via Text Messages

The Maryland Fisheries Service has a program which sends text messages to your cell phone, the messages represent public notices, regulation updates and other species specific information. For example, a day or two before a regulation change goes into effect or a closure period update you will receive a text reminder. There is no charge for this program from the Fisheries Service, but there may be charges from your cell phone service provider if you don't have a texting plan so check with them for details. To sign up, click the appropriate link below and enter your name, cell phone number (numbers only, example 4431234567), select your service provider and then click the subscribe button - it's that easy and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Online Reporting (Crab, Finfish and Charter)

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Fisheries Service is happy to provide you with online commercial reporting services. The Standard Atlantic Fisheries Information System, known as "SAFIS", offers these benefits:

• Enter Trip reports and negative reports online in place of sending in paper reports
• Save on postage, paper and ink (as well as time and energy)
• Reports enter immediately (less delinquent violations)

  • The best way for you to speak with a DNR representative is for you to call the Commercial Reporting Hotline at (1-800-893-2722). This is a voicemail system and you will have the opportunity to leave a message including your name, license number and question. Your phone call will be returned in the order that it was received. We ask that you please be patient, at times we receive a large volume of calls, however, your call will be returned by someone from DNR who can assist you with your problem or question. Thank you.
