
Maryland utilizes a quota based harvest management system to manage its striped bass fishery and because the stock size of striped bass varies over time, annual quotas for the commercial fishery are established for each year. The following is a summary of Chesapeake Bay gill net and Atlantic seasons and quotas for this year.
Chesapeake Drift Gill Net/ Hook and Line (combined fishery)
Striped Bass declarees that hold a valid TFL or FIN license were able to declare for both gill net and hook & line gears for the 2012 season. Striped bass declarees that hold only an HLI license were restricted to only declaring for the hook & line season.
Chesapeake Drift Net:

- Allocation:
- Daily: 300 lbs/licensee/day, 1200 lbs/vessel/day
Chesapeake Hook & Line:
- Season:
- 06/7/2012 to 11/29/2012
- Allocation:
- Daily: 500 lbs/day
- Weekly: 1500 lbs/day
- Season:
- Jun = 84,969 lbs
- Jul = 84,969 lbs
- Aug = 84,969 lbs
- Sep = 84,969 lbs
- Oct = 62,609 lbs
- Nov = 44,720 lbs
Fishing will be restricted to Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week. Days may be added or removed later in the season depending on remaining quota.
Chesapeake Haul Seine:

- 06/07/2012 to 11/30/2012
- Allocation:
- Daily = 750 lbs/licensee/net
- Season = 1,050/licensee
In order to participate in this fishery, participants, must have a Department sealed haul seine.
Chesapeake Pound Nets:

- Varies by permit holder
Atlantic Trawl and Atlantic Drift Gill Net Season:
- Season:
- 01/02/12 to 04/30/12 and 11/01/12 to 12/31/12
- Allocation:
- Season = 1,600 lbs/permit
