OCEAN SIDE FISHING REPORTS

The action on the oceanside has been very good. The thermal profile offshore has been excellent, and has held up nicely over the past 10 days. The problem has been more of a lack of coverage, where not enough boats have been out to locate billfish. But make no mistake, white and blue marlin are off the Canyons in good numbers. Longfin albacore have been encountered along the 100 fathom curve. Yellowfin have been sporadic, but look for that to change nearly any day now. Further inshore, the black sea bass season is now back in after a 10 day closure. The fishing should be excellent on the offshore wrecks and reefs. That fishery remains open through November 30th. Pictured at left is Nathan Berkheimer with a nice dolphin caught at the Hambone. Dolphin have been found in fair numbers offshore, from the Jackspot to the Canyons. Inshore, flounder are being caught in good numbers, and the number of keepers has been higher over the past 10 days. Striped bass action has been fair, with a few legal fish to 34 inches from the Rt. 50 Bridge and Inlet. Weakfish action has been outstanding at the Rt. 50 and the inlet jetties on live lined spot. Some of the weakfish have been up to 10 pounds. The surf awaits the always unpredictable fall red drum run on the beach at Assategue. That should happen any time now.
