Baltimore Harbor Fishing Trip

Type: Chesapeake
Region: Upper Bay
Location: Near Francis Scott Key bridge
Tags: white perch, striped bass, channel catfish

Dad and I enjoyed some White Perch fishing out of the Baltimore Inner Harbor with Captain Tom Hughes on 7-29-15. The trip was donated by Captain Tom to the MD DNR Youth Anglers Club and I was one of the lucky fisherkids to be selected for a trip. Although we all got soaked, the rain didn’t keep us from having a great time fishing and also enjoying visiting the local landmarks. We caught a lot of nice sized white perch along with small strippers and a bonus chanel catfish.

Thanks a bunch Captain Tom for your generous donated trip. Also thanks to the MD DNR for the great fishing opportunities and providing the youth anglers awards.

Local Pond Fishing with the Family

Type: Freshwater
Region: Central
Location: New Market Pond
Tags: largemouth bass

I went out fishing with my family to a local pond. We went later after dinner. I wasn't getting any nibbles for about 30 mins. Just when I was starting to get discouraged a fish started to bite at my line. I pulled a bit and he got hooked. Reeled him in and, WOW!! He was a largemouth bass!! What a fun time. I can't wait till this weekend. My family and I are visiting 4 different state parks and will be fishing at all of them. I hope I can catch some then too. I will report back!

More Perch at Wicomico Pier

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Wicomico Pier
Tags: watersnake, white perch

I went fishing today with my dad at Wicomico Pier. I caught some more perch today and I saw the water snake again. This time I was able to take a picture of it. I was wondering what type of snake it is? Can you please tell me?

DNR Response: The picture is not great, but from what we can tell, it resembles a northern watersnake (Nerodia sipedon).
