2nd Annual Bill Burton Family Fishing Rodeo 2012
Location: Bill Burton Fishing Pier - Choptank River
Over 50 anglers took advantage of the free fishing day on Saturday and joined DNR, Dorchester MSSA and the Burton Family at the 2nd Annual Bill Burton Family Fishing Rodeo. The events was comprised of 14 teams of kids and parents who fished together to try to catch the most species.
This annual event was started to honor legendary angler Bill Burton and held on the pier that bears his name. One team was Billís wife Lois, daughter Heather, and granddaughter Mackenzie who caught a whooping 10.5 inch white perch (see photo).
There was a tie for first place with Team Amber and Robertís Clan each catching five different species, ranging from white perch, striped bass, toadfish, croaker, crabs, and a skate. Each team won a gift card from Bass Pro and a collection of some of Billís favorite lures (courtesy of Lois Burton).
Eight year old Zack Layton of Delmar, DE was randomly selected from the event's many youth registrants to qualify as a youth finalist in the 2012 Maryland Fishing Challenge (MFC) Ė Youth Component. Zack will join over 20 other youth anglers selected from a variety of youth fishing events at the MFC finale held at Sandy Point State Park on September 8th where all youth will win a professionally guided fishing trip.
