Few Keepers On The South River
Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: South River
On August 11 , 2012 I crabbed the South River (Anne Arundel County) between the RTE 2 and Riva Road Bridges. I used 30 collapsible traps with chicken necks as bait. I tried something different, since this was the fourth time I've tried to crab on the South River this year, with terrible results. I crabbed from 11:00-3:00, during a tide change going to high. I crabbed back in a little cove protected from the boat wave action on the main river. Sadly, the results were horrible, as after four hours, I only had five keepers. I threw back at least two dozen 5 inch crabs, and another dozen females. I was the only crabber on the river. There are no legal crabs on the South River. It's been a horrible season thus far.
