Lake Allen Largemouth Bass

Type: Freshwater
Region: Central
Location: Lake Allen at Patuxent Research Refuge, Laurel, MD

On August 26, 2012 I fished Lake Allen on a nice overcast Sunday. I love fishing topwater when conditions are right. Fished a black, weedless Scum Frog, with braided line. Got a better bite on a very slow, pop-n-stop retrieve. Towards the end of my day, I had a big one blow up on my frog just as I popped it and the bass missed my frog. Thinking that there was no way this fish was going to expend the energy to hit it again, it immediately came back up for a second shot and this time, I set the hook to her. My digital scale weighed it in at 5lbs. 2 oz. After a photo, the bass was returned safely.
