Friends Creek Trout
Region: North Central
Location: Friends Creek
I fished Friends Creek in Frederick County over the weekend. Water was fairly low and very clear, making the fish pretty wary. I manged to catch a couple of fish. One was a young trout that appeared to still have parr markings. It was about 4-5 inches long. I thought it was a brookie at first, but I am pretty sure it wasn't on account of the markings. I am wondering whether or not this was a stocked trout or could it be a stream-bred rainbow. I've caught stream bred fish in Western Maryland and in Pennsylvania over the years. The trout was very feisty for its size, and I didn't notice any hatchery wear on the fins, but I didn't look that closely because I wanted to release him quickly. I have fished Friends for many years, but this was a first. Were juvenile trout stocked in Friends Creek this fall?
DNR Response: Friends Creek was stocked on October 2nd with 450 rainbow, brown and golden trout. For the latest information on trout stockings check the Trout Stocking web page.
