Catching Rockfish With My Son
Type: Tidal
Region: Eastern
Location: Choptank River
My 12 year old son, Will, and I caught these rockfish over an oyster reef just down the Choptank River from Secretary, Maryland. Will's rockfish was 20 inches, whereas mine was a measly 19 inch. He likes to keep reminding me of that! We were bottom fishing with frozen peeler crab in 30 feet of water. We caught a few sublegals and lots of small white perch. One perch did top out at 12 inches, and made it to the cooler.
