Late Fall Chain Pickerel
Type: Freshwater
Region: Central
Location: Loch Raven
During the cold months when nothing else seems to bite I can always count on a pickerel cruising just off the shoreline trails at Loch Raven. They seem to turn on right at dusk and will often take in-line spinners like Mepps, Panther-Martin or Joe's Flies. This fish posed for me nicely in six inches of water around 5 p.m. on Nov. 30th. Five minutes later I landed another one! Both were about 13 inches long with beautiful color and chain link patterns.
