Late November Smallmouth at Dawsonville
Location: Upper Potomac River Near Dawsonville
I recently took a trip to the Upper Potomac River near Dawsonville in late November. The water was super clear and cold at approx 47 degrees on the MD side this particular day. Between my co-angler and I, we had 20 fish in the boat. All fish were caught on jerbaits, tubes and hair jigs and released after taking the pictures. Pictured are 2 of the better fish of the day, a smallmouth close to 4 pounds on the right (on a tube) and one about 3 pounds on the left (on a jerkbait). The fish were pretty fat and must have been gorging on bait to hold them over for the winter months ahead. The river has been producing some really good sized smallies over the past few years. With the cold weather and water temps now in the upper 30's/low 40's, its been getting tougher out there, but if you're going to catch a giant, this is probably a good time. Can't wait to get back there in the spring to see what 2013 has in store for us!
