Piney Run Success
Location: Piney Run
IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED...
I was anxious to fish Piney Run on April 20th for its re-opening. The water there was high and a little muddy from the recent rains. The fresh stock of 10-12 inch Trout readily took both lures and bait. I had several hits and misses, but I landed five Trout, only one of which I kept. It was a great hour and a half of action which included a Smallmouth Bass, a Chub and a Pumpkinseed. The only disappointment was one larger Trout that spit the lure before I had him in hand.
On Sunday, the 21st, I wanted to see if the bite at Piney Run was still hot, but I couldn't get away until about 6 p.m. What a difference a day makes! The water was now low and clear; not a single fish in sight as I prodded the entire shoreline with my polarized sunglasses. I made a few half-hearted casts, but I figured the weekend anglers had just about harvested them all. That is until I felt a solid tug from a hole that was just far enough out of view. There, once again fighting on the end of my line, was that same lunker I had missed yesterday, the last Trout in the stream, a 15-inch beautiful Rainbow that waited for me!
