FUN FUN FUN -Tagging for Diamond Jim

Type: Chesapeake
Region: Upper Bay
Location: Chesapeake Bay

WooHoo!!! What an exciting day. I was excited to hear that I was able to go on a boat with the DNR biologists to tag for Diamond Jim. I knew I would have fun butů I NEVER thought I would have as much fun as I did that day.

I like to fish anytime I possilbly can. I like being near the water and pulling fish up and never knowing what you will catch. But today we were going out just to catch rockfish. We were on a quest to catch big rockfish, and tag them for the Diamond Jim contest.

We started out by putting our fishing rods out with artificial parachute rigs. (First time I heard of these rigs.) We waited for the moment when the fish would strike the hooks. We were trolling the whole time. The first fish hit and then the next. There were so many fish hitting the lines. We were all excited to be able to catch a fish. My largest rockfish was 29.09 inches. I pulled and reeled the fish on my rod. The fish was really putting up a fight. The belt they placed around my waist helped me to bring that large fish in.

I was really enjoying watching the biologist tag, weigh, and measure my fish. I loved when we were able to release the fish back into the water. I am excited to see if someone is going to catch my fish and where will they catch him? I had so much fun tagging for Diamond Jim. Thank you for my exciting day DNR.
