Report Eastern Shore Snakeheads
Location: Blackwater River
I understand snakeheads caught in the Blackwater River are to be reported. On Saturday 9/14 we caught (4) snakeheads ranging in size from 16" to 13" long while bass fishing from the wooden foot bridge that crosses the river near Harrisville road. Attached is a photo of these fish which were cleaned and eaten.
DNR Response: I contacted Lou Smith who fished with Kevin to bring in these snakeheads. One snakehead was caught at Blackwater River a couple of years ago. This report will also be sent over to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Thank you guys for reporting the snakeheads and harvesting them! If you catch anymore from those eastern shore rivers, let us know because we’re getting tissue samples for genetics work.
