Trout Fishing Q and A

Type: Freshwater
Region: Central
Location: Deer Creek

I caught this Rainbow Trout pictured around 4:30 PM on Sunday at Deer Creek. I caught this the simple way, with a trout magnet. I am fairly new to the trout arena, so still learning their feeding habits. Next year I will take on learning fly fishing and doing it the hard way. I also caught around 8-10 Fallfish, some of which were pushing 12 or more inches and fairly good fighters. The trout was release unharmed.

Questions: I live near the Little Gunpowder. This was not stocked for the fall correct? Finally where was Deer Creek specifically stocked? I fished at the portion, where there is parking for the public, and the Park Office/Wo-Me-To camping is up the road just ahead within 1/4 mile. Then I fished further up just before a bridge and I am unsure of what intersection that is. Any help to know where the fish are specifically stocked would be helpful. Thanks for all that you do!

DNR Response: Little Gunpowder Falls was not stocked in the Fall. It is typically only stocked during the Spring season.

The Put and Take Trout Fishing area on Deer Creek extends from 1 mile downstream of Cherry Hill Rd upstream to the crossing of Rt 23 near Norrisville. The put and take area is an extensive stretch of stream that is regulated by all the put and take closures, bag limits, and gear restrictions. Within that area, we have public access at multiple sites and locations. Usually, areas that are routinely stocked will have put and take closure signs posted and are relatively obvious access points.

We only stocked the area within Rocks State Park during this Fall's stocking. Where we stock each individual put and take area may change with each stocking due to access problems, numbers of trout, equipment problems, etc.
