C&O Fishing Report

Type: Freshwater
Region: Central
Location: C&O Canal

I went fishing at Swain's Lock on the C&O Canal north of Great Falls Maryland for Largemouth Bass. I fished plastic worms and had some success by walking almost all the way down to Great Falls Maryland. There are a lot of weeds in the canal making fishing difficult but the bass are there. Did not catch any big fish but 3 small bass. I talked to a bicycle patrol man who told me the canal does have snakeheads. He said to keep these fish if one is caught.

Fishing is slow overall for bass but if you have patience and are willing to walk a bit some fish can be caught. Maybe by fall the weeds will disappear making fishing easier. I went to Violette's Lock afterwards but caught no fish and talked to a hiker who said the fishing was not as consistent there as Swain's Lock due to changes in water levels. Tight lines.
