Opening Day of Trout Season
A brisk 30 degree morning could not keep anglers from their appointment with Patapsco trout at 5:30 am on Saturday. We have spent the last month stocking trout all over Central MD, and I was glad to see so many people out enjoying the Patapsco. I arrived at the Avalon area of Patapsco State Park about 7 am and found approximately 80 anglers within sight along roughly 1 mile of river.
Mike Dugan and his son John of Halethorpe were fishing a quiet section of the river and enjoying some flyfishing action.
Marilyn Topper and Cori Bohn, two students at McDaniel College, limited out before the male members of their party and were quite happy about it.
Doug Pearson outdid some fierce competition to catch one of our big holdover rainbows at the Swinging Bridge and also received some press in the Baltimore Sun.
The parking lots were full of fishermen and vehicles at Marriottsville Rd along the upper Patapsco and Piney Run.
